Generally, solo mining wouldn't be a good idea. There is a very good likelihood you wouldn't see a block in weeks or even months (the 'average' time is just that, you could see it in a tenth of the time, or in ten times the time). Using a pool or p2pool is the only realistic option. Essentially, the difficulty is calculated such that if your hashrate (in khs) meets the difficulty you will get one VTC a day. As each block contains 50 VTC, you would need Difficulty x 50 to get a block every day.
Ultimately the choice is up to you. I would however recommend joining a pool or p2pool. DigitalNote XDN Data Mining Calculator. Is my pool, and is SSL enabled • • • •.

This is written specifically for VTC but you can do it with just about any coin you want, just use the appropriate wallet. • Yes, I know solo mining is not usually profitable and yes, I know p2pools are the way to go for VTC, but I'm writing this 'for science'. • This is written for Windows.

Haven't done it long term, don't know that it's worth it. Just did it 'for science'. Would like to know how to send multiple miners to that same wallet but that's something maybe someone else can help with.
I kept running in to 'not sending work fast enough' type errors even with queue upped to 10 so I'm not sure what to do to make them work. Simply add rpcallowip=192.168.asterisk.asterisk (use the real asterisk symbol, it's not working here for some reason). Sometimes your local network might not be on 192.168 etc, so use the first two (or three) numbers of your actual address - you can find this by typing ipconfig into a command prompt in Windows. Point your other miners to the address of the computer with the wallet (e.g. In the bat file type vertminer -o with the 'XX' replaced with the correct address from ipconfig). Keep the same username and password.
Some people say to add rpcthreads=20 to the config as well, but it works fine for me without. Then mine away!:) • • • • •.
