Infact for security you should NOT use a PoS wallet as a public node. That being said, I encourage you if you have the desire and can spare the hardware and bandwidth go for running a public node.

I run a full public node from my home network. Uses upwards of 50GB of data per month. Mine Bitcoin Gold BTG For Free here. Then I run a second private double firewall / nat secured instance of the dcrd node daemon and dcrwallet daemon for my PoS voting. Post sdiff upgrade, the difference payout-wise is miniscule between using a stakepool and solo staking. It'd be great if everyone ran their own solo staking node, but you need to be very certain it's online 24/7 and well-connected.

It's inherently a specialized task, as even a Dockerized version would require deploying and keeping up with server monitoring and node upgrades. And once more stakepools go zero fee, there will be even less of a reason to run your own node. IMO more stakepools need to go zero fee and upsell services. I suspect we will see precisely this when dcrstats.com launches their own prediction market token; an additional UI would need to be built out for it. A similar thing would need to happen if we launched Ethereum as an embedded ledger on top of Decred.

When your lottery ticket is drawn your wallet (or pos pool) votes and you are given a small 1.4 coin reward for voting and then your locked coins are released so that you can choose to spend them or relock to get another ticket. Profit is pretty simple to calculate. Current 'cost' (go see for up to the minute values) of a ticket is 67.88 DCR, the reward is currently 1.4307 DCR. Reward / cost * 100 = profit percentage 1.4307 / 67.88 * 100 = 2.11% • • • • • •.
